From this to much better, at the peninsula

We spent a lot of time on the deck this weekend getting it into the outdoor living space we will enjoy as the days of summer come along to enjoy. And while I won't be sharing the final deck photos today, I did want to share what we (and you know that when I say "we" I really mean my dear husband, right?) did with a crumbling oak wine barrel style planter that had seen better days.

From this......

to this.

When the oak pieces fell apart, the contents of the planter were very stable. Terry was able to lift the compacted mass with a small hand truck. When the plants and soil were lifted, Terry noticed that the root of the tree had grown through the bottom of the planter and was digging into the deck. Now this group of plants can grow to their full ability. I love how the boundaries of the plants were kept in place with driftwood and flat stepping stones.
